Lucid dreaming

Have you ever dreamt about yourself dying? But everytime something is about to hit you or stab you, the killing blow never really occur in time. Instead, you'll find yourself awake, sweating and your heart beating so fast like you just ran a marathon.  A common theory suggests that if you die in your dream, you'll die in real-life. Well, I don't know whether it's true or not, it may even depend on the individual.

I have never been able to actually die in a dream, I don't think I would want to either, but I have dreamt about myself as already dead. As a ghost, wandering the endless world all alone. It was just annoying, people kept walking through you and ignoring you no matter how much you try to talk to them, or even scream at them. But I guess I prefer a dream where I'm already dead instead of one where I'm going to die and and actually dies (real-life).

What are dreams then? I've been interested in dreams for a long time, people say that they are imaginations created by your brain when your asleep. But I'll say it's your subconsious world that you can only explore when your asleep. The enitre dream is controlled by your subconsious, every single thing inside of it, including you.

Let me put it in another way, if you see a ball flying at you at such a speed that you'll definitly get hit, you'll be expecting it to hit you if nothing else pulls you away. The expectation is a thought your brain formulated while your still conscious, a small hint from your subconscious. Everytime you expect something to happen, that's when your subconscious part kicks in. You don't think about it, you just expect it to be so. Why are cars driving on the road? Why are people walking and not flying? You usually don't think about it, but it'll feel natural anyway, because the next thing that'll happen is exactly as you expected. The car continues to move forward and the people are still walking with both legs on the ground.

The events in your dreams are a series of expectations, if you expect yourself to be crowned king in the next ten seconds, you'll be crowned. If you expect yourself to be chased by a giant snake, you WILL be chased by a giant snake. By knowing that, your one step closer to manipulating your own dreams. But it is still not possible, because when we are in our dreams, we are no longer conscious. We don't even know that we are dreaming. Our biggest concern in our dream is what to do after being crowned or how to flee from the damned snake.

So how do we know that we are dreaming? I don't know, I've done it before, but I don't know the trick. Sometime all of a sudden you'll realize that your dreaming because of what you see are just so weird and absurd that you'll finally understand that your dreaming, and sometime you'll go along the whole dream fooled, until you wake up and realize it was all but a dream.

The state of being aware of the fact that you are dreaming are called Lucid Dreaming. An experienced lucid dreamer can control the dream in anyway he likes and explore the dreamscape by creating the world himself. But this requires a lot of practice and one method to achieve this is to keep a dream journal.

Your dream journal are used to record every single dream that you remember right after you wake up. Doing so will help you remember your dreams even months later and will improve your chances of realizing that your dreaming in a  dream. Put a pen and a paper beside your bed so you can start writing immedietly after waking up. A good way to remember the whole dream are going through it in your head fast. Then come up with keywords that corresponds with each part of your dream. For example, if you dreamt about yourself traveling to egypt to see the pyramids, don't write "I traveled to egypt and saw the pyramids". Instead, you should be writing the most important keywords, which are travel, egypt and pyramid. With those three words, you can fill out the rest of the dreams and details. It's very important to do this right after you wake up when your memory are still fresh, you usually forget about the dream as soon as you think about something else. My advices are:
  • Always put a pen and a paper beside your bed.
  • Think about your dream as soon as you wake up and start writing down the keywords
  • If you wake up several times from nightmares, at least make the best of it and take the good opportunity to write down your dreams, it'll even help you analyze your dreams later on if you feel like it.
  • If your too tired, just write the keywords then go back to sleep, you'll be amazed later about how much you can remember just by seeing those keywords.
I'll be doing this too now and see if I can get some results from it... *yawn*
Light's out, goodnight~~

Christmas through my eyes

It's Christmas time soon! The time for you to get off your ass and start placing random flashy things in your house because every single person in your neighbourhood are doing it, yet I don't find it a bit exciting at all. Why? The kids are happy and thinking about what presents they'll get this year, the adults are finally able to take a break from work and spend time with their family (with the exception of workaholics). But I'm sitting here in my room bored and writing my first blog post that nobody even cares about.

My girlfriend will be away the whole holiday and I won't even get to celebrate new year with her. One of my best friend are going on vacation, and soon I'll have to move to another flat (which by the way are smaller than the one I'm living in at the moment) so I'll have to pack my stuff soon. I doubt I'll even get any presents in the first place because I kicked Santa Claus in the balls last year.

Well, as depressing as it may sound like I'll still find something to do, for example, I went ice skating with my girlfriend and my friends yesterday and I also went to the movie theather later to watch Harry Potter - Deathly Hallows. Imo the movie itself was okay, or maybe I was just too tired due to lack of sleep. And when everything else fails or I am just too lazy, I'll be sitting by the computer playing Starcraft 2 or Leauge of Legends. I guess writing isn't too bad either, the only problem is the occasional writer's block that you get.

I wonder who'll even read this? Why am I sitting here writing this? I don't know, just me talking to myself in a very modernized way, as if the mirror wasn't enough.

Happy Christmas!
